What does the noun Shared Equity mean?
An arrangement where the government owns a percentage of your property alongside you. You pay less upfront and borrow less, but when you sell, the government receives its share of the sale price, including any capital gain.
How the noun Shared Equity is used
Through a shared equity scheme, the government owned 30% of our home — we needed a smaller deposit, but they took their cut when we eventually sold.
