Gains & Levels

How you earn Gains, how they roll up into 50 levels, and why your level only ever goes up.

15 April 20262 min read

Every action you take on How to Property is worth something. We call that something Gains — the platform's version of experience points. Gains accumulate into Levels, which unlock parts of the community and mark how far into your property education you've come.

How you earn Gains

Gains are awarded for learning, engaging, and investing in your own profile. Here are the main ways to earn them:

  • Complete a lesson — 50 Gains, awarded the moment you finish a lesson's interactive activity.
  • Complete a course — 200 bonus Gains once every lesson in the course is done.
  • Pass a course quiz on your first attempt — 100 bonus Gains.
  • Finish onboarding — 100 Gains for telling us who you are so we can tailor the content.
  • Complete a profile section — 75 Gains per section, with a 300-bonus reward when your profile is fully complete.
  • Keep a daily login streak — 10 Gains per day, scaling up at streak milestones.
  • Take part in the forum — 15 for starting a discussion, 10 for replying, 5 for each upvote you receive.
  • Refer a friend — 150 Gains when they create an account.
  • Earn a badge — bonus Gains vary by badge; see the Badges resource for the full list.

Gain values are indicative and we may rebalance them as the platform grows. Your total Gains are always visible on your profile and progress page.

The 50-level system

Levels run from Level 1 (just arrived) all the way to Level 50 (deeply engaged). Early levels come fast — the first few are hit within your first handful of lessons — and each subsequent level asks a little more of you.

What levels unlock

Levels aren't just a number on your profile — they unlock parts of the community as you grow:

  • Early levels — full lesson content, progress tracking, and personalised course recommendations.
  • Mid levels — access to course-specific discussion boards where you can start threads, not just reply.
  • Higher levels — forum trust signals, access to one on one conversations.

Why we split "Gains" and "Level"

A single score is easy to inflate; a level is earned. Gains capture every small action you take, but your level is the canonical signal of how far you've come. That's why on your profile, the level badge sits front and centre — your total Gains sit beneath it as the running tally.

If you're curious how close you are to the next level, the Dashboard shows your current Gains, your next threshold, and a progress bar for the current level. Hit the bar, level up, and carry on.
